Radio Sweethearts debut single released in limited edition of 1000 on San Francisco label Swingset (Cat.No.006). This rare release features exclusive versions of "Heading On Down The Highway", "Every Other Song" and "Living Without You", different from the ones that appeared on subsequent albums.

 

Now Sold Out limited edition single on Shoeshine Records (SHOE 003) featuring the album versions of "New Memories" and "Beer And Whisky". Copies of this and the other Shoeshine 7" single below regularly turn up on online auction and rare vinyl sites.

 

Shoeshine 7" (SHOE 008) featuring versions of Hank Williams' "Rambling Man" and Sweethearts original "Found A New Love". These tracks were later released on the Shoeshine CD "New Memories...Revisited" (see below)

 

Rare live single recorded at the original 13th Note in Glasgow. It features a double A-side with Radio Sweethearts performing Townes Van Zandt classic "White Freightliner Blues" and "Tension Toy" by the excellent Fem-Punk trio Pink Kross. It was released in strictly limited numbers on the Glasgow label flotsam and jetsam (Cat.No SHag13.05)

New Memories

New Memories...Revisited

Debut album by Radio sweethearts originally released as a 12 track CD on St. Roch Records in the USA prior to release in the UK, one of the first British Country bands to do so. The CD was later released in the UK as "New Memories...Revisited", an 18 track CD on Shoeshine Records SHOECD 003. All tracks were written by Radio Sweethearts except where stated.

Original St Roch CD features the following tracks:

SHOESHINE CHARTBUSTERS

Various Artists compilation "Shoeshine Chartbusters" released on CD and limited edition double LP featuring all of the early shoeshine singles plus bonus tracks from all the artists involved. Radio Sweethearts tracks featured are "Beer And Whisky", "New Memories" and a version of "Crazy Heart" (written by Fred Rose and originally performed by Hank Williams). The CD was also released under license in Japan on d:pop/noiz records DRCN-25021. The Japanese CD also features exclusive Radio Sweethearts versions of Johnny Cash's 'I Still Miss Someone' and Townes Van Zandt's 'White Freightliner Blues'. Other artists featured include BMX Bandits, Alex Chilton, Eugene Kelly and Norman Blake.

 

SOUNDS OF THE SUBURBS

"John Peel's Sounds Of The Suburbs" A Various Artists compilation featuring an exclusive Radio Sweethearts son "A Real Ghost Town" written specially for the show. (Later re-recorded by John Miller for his "One Excuse Too Many" CD). Sounds Of The Suburbs was initially available as a 9 track sampler CD on Shifty Disco Records (SHIFTY9900) and later as a 23 track double CD (SHIFTY9901). Other artists featured include top Scottish band The Delgados.

 

CAROLINE NOW

"Caroline Now - The songs of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys" (Marina Records - Germany. MA 50) features an exclusive Radio Sweethearts recording of "Honkin' Down The Highway" from The Beach Boys "Love You" album. Other artists include Duglas Stewart, Chip Taylor, David Scott, Alex Chilton, Bill Wells and The Pastels.

 

SLICK WILLIE AND THE ARKANSAS FROGS

"Slick Willie and the Arkansas Frogs" is an anti Bill Clinton compilation put together by St. Roch (against my better judgement) and featuring "Out In The Darkness" from the "New Memories" album.

 

SHOESHINE SAMPLER

The Shoeshine / Spit & Polish sampler features tracks from all the Shoeshine/S&P album releases to date including tracks from Radio Sweethearts, Laura Cantrell, Michael Shelley, Paul Burch and Tim Carroll. Originally available in a cardboard slip cover at the bargain price of £1.99. If you are lucky there may still be a few copies of this around.

 

A TRIBUTE TO FRANKIE MILLER

A Multi Artist tribute to the music of Frankie Miller featuring an exclusive Radio Sweethearts version of the song "Falling In Love With You". This double CD "A Tribute To Frankie Miller" (on Eagle Records ETGBX227) also features such luminaries as Rod Stewart, Lulu, The Proclaimers, Nazareth, Robert Carlyle, Edwyn Collins and many, many more. Initial copies contain a free 3rd CD featuring unsigned Scottish Acts.

BUCKETFUL OF BRAINS

An excellent magazine devoted to all kinds of Roots Music, Psychedelia, etc. This CD was given away with the 50th issue and features Radio Sweethearts song "Tossin' and Turnin'". It also features Dan Penn among many others

 

AFTER HOURS

First issue of this Japanese magazine featured a beautifully packaged 10" vinyl record featuring Radio Sweethearts version of Billy Joe Shaver's "Georgia On A Fast Train". It also has tracks by Duglas Stewart, Speedboat and Future Pilot AKA.

 

BLOODY DOLPHINS

High Quality Japanese fanzine Beikoku-Ongaku (Bloody Dolphins) issue 11 (early Summer 98) comes with a free CD entitled Dream On featuring 16 tracks Radio Sweethearts "A Deeper Hurt".

ACROSS THE BORDER

Former full time band of Radio Sweethearts fiddler John McCusker this Battlefield Band live CD (Temple COMCD2065 also on cass.) has an exclusive version of Trucking Classic "Six Days On the Road" featuring Battlefield Band and The Radio Sweethearts live at The Queen's Hall in Edinburgh (look out for the bagpipe solo). The CD also has contributions from Kate Rusby, Braveheart piper Eric Rigler and others.

 

GETTIN' DIRTY

BMX Bandits "Gettin' Dirty" on Creation Records features John Miller on harmony vocals on the fourth track "Hello Again". It also features Drew Hamill who was Radio Sweethearts pedal-steel player at the time of recording.

 

ROLL ON JOHN

John Miller and other members of Radio Sweethearts feature heavily on these recordings by legendary bluegrass singer John Herald (of The Greenbriar Boys) available on Spit & Polish. The album also features Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian fame.

 

KATE RUSBY & SHEILA NOONAN

A TRAIN BOUND FOR GLORY

Superb John Miller out-take from the 'Popping Pills' album recorded in east Kilbride and featuring Phil Sakerski and Alisdair Kennedy from The Moonshiners.

VICTORIA

John Miller ballad from the first ever Radio Sweethearts recording session in Riverside Studio 2 (16 track) between May and July 1994. These sessions also spawned the early versions of 'Heading On Down The Highway' and 'Every Other Song' heard on the "very rare" Sweethearts debut single on Swingset Records USA (see top of page).

(CAN'T GET USED TO) LIVING WITHOUT YOU

Two studio versions of this song (not including the one on 'Lonesome Blue') exist. One recorded at the 2nd recording session in Carlton Studios in Glasgow in June 1993 and the other an out-take from the 'New Memories' sessions of 15th Jan 1996.

IF YOU NEED A FRIEND

Recorded at the 2nd Sweethearts recording session in Carlton Studios in Glasgow June 1993.

(TRYING TO) FORGET ABOUT YOU

Two studio versions of this great Frank Macdonald country rocker. The first recorded at Riverside Studio 1 Mar- May 1994 and the 2nd at the Kim Fowley produced session for New Memories on 15th Jan 1996

SOUND OF THE SUBURBS

Recorded at East Kilbride Arts Centre on 10th July 1998. A few choice bands were invited to submit their version of the Members punk classic for possible use as the title track of the John Peel Channel 4 series of the same name. Needless to say we didn't make the cut.
